In Short – This paved bicycle path, on the former Penn Central Railroad, starts in the heart of the Cape and ends on national seashore of the Outer Cape. You'll pass a junkyard when leaving Dennis--don't despair. The first cranberry bog is only a mile away. The trip quickly settles into a nice rhythm of pine trees, big pond, cranberries, tunnel, pine trees, big pond, cranberries. The last leg is a straight line for eight miles into Wellfleet.
The Details on Cape Cod Rail Trail
Know Before You Go:
Occasionally, the trail crosses streets, so watch for traffic. And keep to the right of the bright yellow poles at intersections.
The Extras:
There are nice views of ponds and Wellfleet Harbor--even a tunnel under Route 6--but the terrain is flat and, on sunny days, full of in-line skaters.
