It is no more. It is now the Oyster Bar Grill. Excellent if pricey food with friendly service in a great athmosphere. Recommend highly
GOOD FOOD!!!!!!!. I go there almost every night the food its great i don't know why people keep saying its bad they're are people there every night loving the food. great staff nice, huge wine list too. trust me i know. let me get to the point here it may be a a tinny bit pricey but its TOTALLY worth it thats all i wanted to say :) :)
Interesting food, nice folks.
We went first at Thanksgiving after seeing something about this place on TV. Great meal with many unusual additions. Since then we have gone 4 times in 2008 and had a very good experience each time. The last time we went at the last minute after they had stopped serving and they made some truely great hamburgers for us.
The value is good, the folks are friendly, the prices are reasonable for MV. The house red is delicious.
Good bar, big TV sets, rock & roll themes. Try it.
Inattentive and rude service. I?ve never written a review before, but wanted to write about my negative experience at Balance. The food was terrible and the staff was inattentive and outright rude. Furthermore, the prices are expensive. I want to spare everyone of the mistake we made by dining there, do yourself a favor and skip Balance Restaurant.
RUDE to tourists. I would never recommend anyone to go to Balance, unless maybe you are a MV local as they seem to cater to locals. I went there with a group of friends for drinks one night and the staff was very rude to all of us. It took forever to get a drink and there were maybe 20, if that, customers in the bar. The music was horrible to top it all off. There are many fun places to go in the vineyard with very nice people, but this is not one of them!
The Best meal ever.
As we started our evening off with a ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard, while on the ferry my husband and I started talking to a local about the Vineyard. He suggested Balance to us, as we told him we are major foodies and I even write a Gourmet, Non Gourmet food newsletter, then he actually escorted us to Balance!
We were so lucky to get in, the place was packed. The bartender came over and took our drink order (we sat in the bar) she was very friendly and prompt. Yes, the place was noisy, but is all part of a great restaurant. It was great to see the chefs jamming out to the Rolling Stones on the plasma TV set in the open kitchen, right there I knew we were going to have an experience, not just a dinner. My husband started with the Maine Lobster salad, which I shared with him and then went on to the BIG A S S Scallops each set on a bed of polenta. I started with egg rolls in plum sauce which he shared with me and then on to the Seared rare Tuna, oh my goodness, the meals were in incredible, as I said it was an experience; one that we will have again come November 2008. To this day my husband still says it is the best meal he has ever had, and that is coming from someone who has eaten at plenty of celebrity chefs restaurants. So all in all the food was incredible, the service was top notch and I would Highly recommend Balance, if you don't go you will miss out on one of the best dining experiences you will ever have!
A trendy spot with a chef that takes culinary leaps on the bustling Circuit Avenue strip..
This is the place to see and be seen. The dining room is open and noisy with upscale, hippie art on the walls. A boisterous bar heats up at night. If you don't spot star chef Ben deForest in the open kitchen, you'll probably catch him schmoozing at the next table. Menu items, featuring fresh local ingredients, are mostly from the sea, but options like the roasted pork loin is a perfect save for the landlubbers.
The people at this restaurant are totally, inexcusably rude. It's amazing that they get good reviews, maybe they're nice to food reviewers...
BE WARNED--if you're looking for a pleasant atmosphere, look elsewhere. Don't waste your money here.
Nice Place but TERRIBLE service.
I dined at Balance recently with some friends. To begin with, we were seated next to a loud large party, even though the dining room was empty when we arrived.
Our server was aggressive, inattentive, condescending and in a hurry -- even though we were the only table he was serving. Our waiter too eagerly cleared the lobster bisque that one of my companions ordered -- even though he'd not finished eating it.
In addition, the plates were not presented to the correct guests; the server speed poured our bottle of wine; he threw the dessert menus on the table and then when asked for a check gave the check to the youngest member of the party aged 14.
