What a Mistake!.
The Victoria House is a quaint hotel located in the heart of Provincetown, Mass. For those looking for an off-season P-Town bargain (like my girlfriend and myself) we could not resist the allure. The tiny rooms that the Victoria House offers leave much to be desired, but the central location of the hotel compensates for sleeping in very cramped quarters.
Although my girlfriend and I enjoyed the central P-Town location and the bargain price that the Victoria House had to offer, we quickly found out that not everything gilded is golden.
When we initially arrived the owner was not present; it was 3PM on a Saturday. After knocking on the Office door for nearly 30 minutes, I called the hotel several times from my cell phone. After an hour I finally got in touch with the owner, who did not seem to know that I had a reservation. Eventually we got to our room, and there were no towels ? so I had to ask him for towels (not once, but twice).
Last, when checking out he was unable to run my credit card though his credit card machine ? so I settled the balance in cash and the owner issued me a hand-written receipt for the amount paid in cash, which he made a copy of for his records. Two days later, there was a charge on my credit card from the Victoria House in the amount settled in cash. When I called the owner to have the charges reversed, he said he didn't have a record of the balance being settled in cash, even though when he issued me a receipt he made a copy for his records. Then he admitted that he made a mistake, and said he would reverse the charge. As a precaution, I also contacted my credit card company to dispute charge.
Bottom line: based on my experience, I would not recommend the Victoria House based on my experience with the proprietor.
