Surfer types and a beachside bar make this a cool hangout in a tony town.

Overview
Wellfleet is among the most civilized towns on the Cape, but its most popular beach is anything but sedate. Backed by mountainous dunes that you must climb down to get to the beach, Cahoon Hollow's setting is dramatic. Despite the riptide, it's a favorite surfer hangout. With the majestic dunes on one side and the crashing waves of the Atlantic on the other, the beach is a perfectly beautiful spot for a stroll.
The Appeal
What really gives Cahoon its cooler-than-thou air is the Beachcomber. This bar and restaurant located on the site of a former Coast Guard station is the place to go for sunset libations. The dunes are so high, you can't really see the beach from the outside patio, but who's complaining?

The secret is out. Cahoon Hallow is the best of the Cape beaches even without the Beachcomber. We have been coming to Cahoon Hollow for almost twenty years. The beach affords plenty of surf and serenity. An early morning walk revels the real Cape, you will see piping plovers, seals and the most beautiful backdrop of towering dunes and vast ocean to be found anywhere.

What Cape Cod is All About
by jmkeupp
Cahoon Hollow Beach is the best example of what Cape Cod is and why I go there. It is only a short, scenic drive from Route 6 and when you get there you are in a world apart. You have to be a bit nimble to get down to the beach since there are no stairs, but this just helps to keep the beach uncrowded. And after the beach, the Beachcomber Restaurant is the perfect spot for great food, a drink and nightly music. When someone who has never been there asks me to discribe Cape Cod, Cahoon Hollow is the first thing I mention.
- Pros: Uncrowded, Scenic, Restaurant
- Cons: Difficult access
